The structure of the A & P

The story can be divided into two parts. Part A is from the beginning to paragraph 10. Part B is from paragraph 11 to the end of the story.
Part A introduces us the main character, Sammy and the foil character, Stokesie.

Sammys vivid fantasies toward his customers and working place were told in term of first narrator in the opening paragraph. And his disapproval of customers lives implies us that Sammy is something of a nonconformist, which indicates the conflict between him and the policy of the working place.
Rise-in-action occurs in the beginning of the part B till the climax. How Sammy responses in such a situation that his manager blames those girls? Then the conflict results the Climax about how Sammy will act. Climax is in the paragraph 21, when Sammy tells his manager, Lengel, he wants to quit. He cant stand at what his manager has treated to those girls, and then he makes his first step into independence. The girls, and whod blame them, are in a hurry to get out, so I say I quit to Lengel quick enough for them to hear, hoping theyll stop and watch me, their unsuspected hero.

Fall-in-action is in the paragraph 30. Sammy folds his apron, and puts it on the corner. He returns his uniform to Lengel, just like he is going to give up the dependence he used to relying on. Lengel signs and begins to look very patient nd old and gray. Hes been a friend of my parents for years.

The conclusion comes after Sammy walks out of A & P. Nobody waits for him outside but the sunshine skating around on the asphalt. He wants to do the right things in his own way, to be independent. The consequence is that Sammy has to face the reality world and starts to feel how hard the world will be. His face was dark and his back stiff, as if hed just had an injection of iron, and my stomach kind of fell as I felt how hard the world was going to be to me hereafter.
